Custom Solutions

It sounds great... "We provide custom solutions; it will be built only your needs and requirements in mind". No doubt, there are great advantages making things custom and tailored, but there are some big drawbacks, too. Especially, if you have tight schedule and/or limited budget for your project.

RENOVATION

July 2024:

Honestly, I'm not against custom built solutions; I'm only touching this subject because many renovators deal with it, even myself with my current commercial project.

Custom solutions work well, if you are dealing with a professional who is able to give you facts about the custom product:

  1. How is it done/manufactured/installed?

  2. Who is responsible and for what? - Sales? Manufacturer? Installer?

  3. What are the ramifications to other functions around the custom built solution?

  4. What is the actual price? What are the labor costs?

  5. What is the timeline? Do you have a set date when it must be ready?

  6. Is the product (or materials) coming out of the country location?

  7. Is custom solution impacting other contractors; their work and schedule?

  8. Is warranty provided?

Custom built solutions are sometimes absolutely necessary. However, often the same impact can be reached with a "semi-custom" option. If you are going to sell your home in a few years, it would be wise to calculate... is custom worthwhile? Chances are that the buyer of your house won't see the value of a tailored detail.

Some clients want custom built solutions from start to finish - there is always need for it. They most likely have time to wait until their home is fully finished; ready to move in and enjoy. By customizing you get exactly what you want. The quality may exceed products that are available in big-box stores. And you know that it is truly made for you.

The main thing is that you are happy with it, custom made, or out of the box!
