Downsizing IS difficult

Almost a year has passed since I wrote last time. 2025 was a year that I would like to forget. For the most part. I’m pretty sure you have experienced the same at some point in your life. This blog is a snippet of my downsizing project.

HOMEDOWNSIZING

December 2025:

We managed to downsize our abode in 2025. As I was experiencing personally difficult time I figured, “What is one more challenge in the mix…?” I must say though, I don’t recommend this approach to anyone. Moving from your longtime home wherein you have poured your soul and strength, is a big challenge in itself.

One practical advice that I could give if you are planning to downsize… Order a dumpster! I mean this. You WILL need it. There are many charities and non-profits that receive material donations, but you will amaze yourself by the findings when you start a serious purge. “Why on earth have I kept this thing for all these years? Seriously, what is this? What is it used for?” I’m not joking!

As I was agonizing over the stuff, my dear husband finally ordered a dumpster and we filled it to the brim, even after loads of given away items and furniture. Honestly, I was so grateful!

Because
the available space is now limited, buying nonsensical items doesn't happen anymore. Instead, it forces us to be creative and selective, and we appreciate those “chosen” objects even more.

I love our new, smaller home and wholeheartedly expect wonderful memories to be created here - just like in any other home we have ever lived in.

I wish you a very happy & memorable year 2026!
